The town of Salina, KS, has voted to continue fluoridating its water supply.
Located 175 miles west of Kansas City, with a population of about 48,000, the vote to repeal the 46-year-old ordinance was defeated by a 2-to-1 margin, according to a salina.com story.
The president of the Salina Dental Society said the decisive vote is good for public health and the community.
A committee of five dentists and two doctors was formed to spearhead a public information campaign to educate resident about the importance of fluoride to dental health.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has recognized water fluoridation as one of 10 greatest public health achievements of the 20th century.
