A Pennsylvania couple was arrested April 25 for allegedly refusing to take their two young children to the dentist for two years, leaving the children with "rotting" and "decayed" teeth, according to officials.
The children, ages 7 and 9, had complained to their parents, John and Donna Grobelny of Bethlehem, that their teeth hurt, and school officials notified the parents about the condition of the children's teeth, a police news release stated.
"Neither parent took the initiative to act or render aid about their children's dental condition," the police said. Court records describe the 9-year-old's teeth as "black and green."
The parents were charged with felony counts of endangering the welfare of children and reckless endangerment. They were arraigned in district court and committed to Northampton County Prison, with bail set at $35,000 for John and $15,000 for Donna.
The children were taken from their home by Northampton County Children, Youth and Families investigators and examined at a local hospital, according to the release.
