New York Gov. David Paterson has vetoed a bill that would have required caries warnings on sippy cups and baby bottles, according to a story on msnbc.com.
The bill would have required the following label: "Warning: Allowing your child to spend prolonged periods of time drinking liquids, other than water, from this baby bottle or sippy cup [whichever is applicable] may cause early childhood tooth decay."
Manufacturers would have to include the warning either in the packaging or on the vessel itself. Those who didn't comply would face penalties of up to $250 for each violation and up to $1,000 for a subsequent violation.
"Brief warning labels are simply not the best vehicle to convey detailed information about general parental practice and proper use of a product that is not inherently dangerous," Paterson wrote in his veto message, msnbc.com reported.
