'David After Dentist' video earns more than $100K

The father who videoed his son under the influence of dental anesthesia is making so much money from the video that he has quit his job, according to CNN.com.

David Elbert DeVore shot the video of his 7-year-old son, David Alejandro Devore, in May 2008 when the boy was experiencing hallucinations caused by ketamine for an oral surgery to remove a supernumerary tooth.

The video was played more than 37 million times in 2009, according to YouTube. That made it the second-most watched YouTube video of 2009 (after "Susan Boyle -- Britain's Got Talent").

Now the older DeVore is cashing in on the attention, reaping royalties from ad sales on YouTube, licensing the video to other users, and selling merchandise, such as David After Dentist T-shirts, CNN said. It quoted the older DeVore as estimating the income so far in "the low six figures."

It reported that the family, who live near Orlando, FL, has also donated about $6,000 to charity, including some dental organizations, and that much of the rest will go to young David's college education. DeVore said his son feels fine about the fame.
