MSU takes on children's oral care project

The Social Science Research Center at Mississippi State University (MSU) is collaborating with the Mississippi State Department of Health on an oral health project for children, according to a news story in the Clarion Ledger.

In its first year, the Delta Oral Health Project will address children's oral health issues via direct services, education, and policy, according to the story.

"This is a comprehensive attempt to provide children with access to oral health services and to research best practices," research center project coordinator Heather Hanna told the Clarion Ledger. "It's our goal to see that children in the Delta have better oral health outcomes and that their caregivers have the tools needed to provide the best possible oral health environments."

As part of direct dental services, children in 18 licensed child care centers in Coahoma County have already received oral health screenings and fluoride varnish, the story concluded.
