Oral and maxillofacial surgeons (OMSs) continue to be patients' first choice for wisdom teeth removal and dental implants, according to national consumer surveys conducted by the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS).
For the fifth year in a row, OMSs were identified as the preferred professional for these procedures across three different consumer segments: mothers of teenagers, young adults, and baby boomers. The findings come from annual national consumer surveys commissioned by the AAOMS from 2017 to 2022.
According to the surveys, 76% of mothers of teenagers and 77% of young adults reported that they would most likely choose an OMS for the removal of wisdom teeth. Fifty-nine percent of baby boomers reported that their preferred provider for dental implants is an OMS.
