Medical device company Amend Surgical has finalized funding with two organizations to accelerate the development of a tissue tape that can be used as an alternative to traditional sutures in dental procedures.
Amend has finalized a deal with the Institute for Commercialization of Florida Technology. Amend was previously awarded product development funding from the Michigan-Pittsburgh-Wyss Regenerative Medicine Resource Center, which was established by the U.S. National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research's Dental Oral and Craniofacial Tissue Regeneration Consortium initiative. Details of the funding were not disclosed.
The funds will be used to develop and market Amend Tissue Tape, which is made from a biocompatible hydrogel-based material that binds to biological tissue in wet environments, like the oral cavity. Additionally, Amend Surgical is actively developing nonresorbable and resorbable products for applications in periodontal and oral surgical procedures.
In June, Amend licensed the material from Harvard University's Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering.
