Week in Review: Christensens at 2016 Women in Dentistry; Burris on competition; Levin on micromanaging

Dear DrBicuspid Member,

It was fantastic experiencing DrBicuspid.com's 2016 Women in Dentistry conference last week in Park City, UT. Being able to hear speakers such as Rella and Dr. Gordon Christensen, Dr. DesirĂ©e Walker, Dr. Carol Gomez Summerhays, and others in an intimate and beautiful setting was inspiring.

The Christensens, Premier Dental President and CEO Julie Charlestein, and others highlighted the second day of DrBicuspid.com's 2016 Women in Dentistry conference. View our slideshow from Park City here.

Everyone wants to know what is coming next. In this Second Opinion, Dr. Benjamin Burris would like to see increased access to care and better service for patients. He also sees that increased competition and market disruption are almost inevitable, unless dentists do a better job of policing themselves and serving their patients.

One of dentists' major shortcomings as team leaders is their tendency to micromanage. You generate revenue when you're chairside, not when you're hovering over team members or taking administrative matters into your own hands. To grow, you need to focus on dentistry -- and delegate the rest, according to Dr. Roger P. Levin.

Michael Ventriello, owner of Ventriello Communications and an experienced voice in dental public relations, explains why he "fired" his dentist over the lack of oral cancer screening. He writes that dentists and hygienists need to embrace examination tools and protocols to improve oral cancer screening and survival rates. Read his thoughts here.
