Oregon legislators have introduced three new pieces of legislation related to dental provisions in the impending Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), including the integration of coordinated care organizations and dental care organizations.
HB 2271 requires coordinated care organizations to provide oral healthcare through contracts with dental care organizations.
HB 2272 specifies that dental care organizations are major components of the healthcare delivery system and must be part of the governance structure of coordinated care organizations, according to the Academy of General Dentistry.
HB 2273 requires state health officials to continue to contract with dental care organizations to serve medical assistance recipients.
All three bills were introduced on January 15.
