Dentist and dental hygienist were ranked among the top 10 careers in the U.S. News & World Report's 100 Best Jobs list for 2014.
Dentist dropped to No. 3 after being ranked as last year's top job, but the profession came in first in healthcare careers, which are a growing sector of the 100 best jobs. The dental profession is expected to add 23,300 new jobs up to 2022.
Dental hygienist came in 10th among the 100 best jobs and seventh in healthcare jobs. This field is expected to grow 33.3% from 2012 to 2022, according to the report
Job seekers looking for a career that offers steady employment, a good salary, and long-term growth should consider healthcare, which dominated this year's rankings with seven of the top 10 jobs and had 38 of the 100 best jobs in the report. Other healthcare jobs in the top 10 in the overall best jobs list included nurse practitioner, pharmacist, registered nurse, physical therapist, and physician.
The report also breaks down the rankings into specific categories. Jobs were rated on criteria including 10-year growth potential, median salary, employment rate, stress level and work-life balance.
