Business & Industry Insider: Private insurance boosts preventive care in older patients

As the population of the U.S. and the patients in your practice age, finding ways to maintain their oral health becomes increasingly important. In a new study, researchers found that having private dental insurance increased preventive service use by older patients by 25%. They also noted that adding a dental benefit to Medicare could significantly increase dental service use in this population. Read our Insider Exclusive.

In other Business & Industry Community articles, dental therapists may be controversial within organized dentistry, but the results of a new survey suggest that the general public accepts the idea. In fact, more than 70% of U.S. adults support the idea of dental therapists. The findings demonstrate that adults with private and public insurance appear open to new healthcare models.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released new data that include more than 117,000 reports of serious injuries associated with dental implants. The vast majority of these injuries were due to problems with osseointegration.
