Ga. dentist pleads guilty to $1M Medicaid fraud

A dentist in the Atlanta area has pleaded guilty to Medicaid fraud.

Oluwatoyin Solarin, DDS, submitted false Medicaid claims of nearly $1 million from 2009 to 2013, according to a story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Dr. Solarin was a dentist who ran Care dental, a dental franchise with offices in Doraville and Duluth, GA. Her employees were instructed to backdate Medicaid claims for patients whose eligibility had expired. She also claimed she was the treating dentist on days she was not in the U.S., according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia.

As part of the guilty plea, Dr. Solarin has agreed to repay the money and forfeit her interest in 12 real estate properties she purchased using the funds. Sentencing is scheduled for February 2017.
