Nearly 300,000 additional Oregon residents have obtained dental coverage in 2014, mostly under the Oregon Health Plan.
Dental insurers say they've seen a significant increase in the number of people who have signed up for health and dental plans, with all new members coming to the Oregon Health Plan, according to a bizjournal.com story.
The plan has increased by 280,000 new participants since January 1, while nearly 12,000 more have obtained dental coverage through the Cover Oregon program.
Oregon's Medicaid expansion came with a new dental package that includes preventive care for adults. But some procedures, including crowns or complete dentures, are not covered for most adults.
In Oregon, only 30% of commercially insured children and 39% of those on Medicaid get dental care, which is below the national averages of 58% and 44%, respectively, according to the ADA.
