Iowa court denies dental fee capping

The Iowa Supreme Court voted unanimously today to block insurance providers from setting fee caps for dental procedures not covered by insurance.

The court's 7-0 ruling is being hailed as a victory for dentists who can now set their own prices for some services, according to an Associated Press story.

Under the ruling, dentists are free to set their own prices when an insurer does not pay for a normally covered procedure.

In recent years, several states have enacted similar legislation, including South Dakota, Virginia, Washington, Oklahoma, Oregon, Mississippi, Nebraska, Kansas, Idaho, Iowa, Alaska, Arizona, and Georgia.
