Wisconsin state senators have passed a bill that would eliminate fee-capping language in existing contracts between dentists and insurance companies for certain procedures not covered by insurance policies, according to an article by the Associated Press.
The Senate passed AB 109 by a 30-3 vote with bipartisan support on May 7. The Republican-controlled state Assembly passed the bill on April 17 on a bipartisan vote 89-8. It will now go to Gov. Scott Walker.
The Wisconsin Dental Association supported the bill, which could prevent insurers from requiring dentists to charge in-network patients less than those outside of the network for procedures not covered by the insurance plan.
The bill was opposed by the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce lobbying group.
