Delta Dental of California has renewed its contract with the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) and has signed a five-year, $2.6 billion agreement to manage the Tricare Retiree Dental Program, according to an article in San Francisco Business Times. The bulk of the money will be paid to dentists providing treatment for the program's enrollees. The article noted that Delta Dental gets about 10% of the total amount of other contracts.
The Tricare Retiree Dental Program began in 1997 with a congressional authorization and offers voluntary dental benefits to 5 million retired service members and their families. It currently has 1.3 million enrollees.
