Web tool lets patients compare dental insurance costs

DentalPlans.com has launched the Dental HyGenie Plan Finder, which the company designed to help people search for and compare dental plans based on savings for specific procedures offered by the plans in their area.

The new tool, available online at the company's website, lets people choose up to five of the following dental procedures:

  • Checkups and x-rays
  • Cleanings and sealants
  • Fillings and crowns
  • Braces
  • Implants and veneers
  • Root canals
  • Periodontal treatments
  • Dentures and bridges
  • Tooth extractions
  • Pediatric dentistry

Visitors then enter a ZIP code and select an individual or family dental savings plan.

The Dental HyGenie Plan Finder will reveal the top five dental savings plans that will save visitors the most on the dental care procedures they selected, according to the company.

For the last four decades, the average annual dental insurance maximum has remained capped at around $1,000 to $1,500, according to DentalPlans.com. This might be enough to cover basic procedures but still requires consumers to pay hundreds of dollars out-of-pocket for major dental work, such as root canals and crowns.
