Delta Dental eyes $474M Mich. contract

Delta Dental of Michigan expects to win a $474 million contract to supply dental benefits to Michigan state employees, retirees, and eligible dependents at a meeting of the state's administrative board May 4, according to Crain's Detroit Business.

The site quoted Kurt Weiss, a spokesman for the state Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, as saying that Delta, which has held the contract since 1982, was the only vendor meeting the state's technical requirements, so Delta won his department's recommendation. Humana and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan also bid on the contract.

Delta will get $16 million of the contract for administrative costs, a decrease of $900,000 (5.5%) from the previous contract. Delta also promised to reduce dental claim costs by $8.8 million over the term of the contract, according to Weiss.
