A bill passed in the Oklahoma Senate would prohibit insurance companies from limiting fees for procedures they don't cover. The bill, authored by the Oklahoma Dental Association, is now in the Oklahoma House of Representatives Public Health Committee.
It is similar to bills being considered by the legislatures in Virginia, Iowa, and Kansas, and to a law that passed in Rhode Island in June.
The bill's key provision reads, "No contract entered into after the effective date of this act between a dental plan of a health benefit plan and a dentist for the provision of services to patients may require that a dentist provide services to its subscribers at a fee set by the health benefit plan unless the services are covered services under the applicable subscriber agreement."
