The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) is "disappointed" by the healthcare reform bill President Barack Obama signed into law March 23.
The bill passed December 24, 2009, in the U.S. Senate and March 21, 2010, in the U.S. House of Representatives, after which the House passed a series of revisions that the Senate ratified March 25.
High up in the AGD's list of concerns about the bill are issues having to do with dental care providers who are not dentists. It notes that dental hygienists will be eligible for training grants under Title VII of the Allied Health Workforce Recruitment and Retention Program, that demonstration projects will be launched to test midlevel providers, and that dental health aide therapists will be able to serve American Indian tribes outside Alaska for the first time.
