Maryland selects United Concordia for dental coverage

United Concordia Companies announced that it has been awarded the contract to provide dental insurance services for the state of Maryland.

Under terms of the five-year contract, United Concordia will be the exclusive dental carrier, providing both dental preferred provider organization (DPPO) and dental health maintenance organization (DHMO) insurance products to the state's 113,000 eligible employees and retirees. This is the fourth consecutive contract that has been awarded to the company since 1997.

United Concordia "shares a focus on wellness initiatives" with Maryland, the company stated in a press release. As a result, United Concordia will provide the state with programs that "encourage state of Maryland employees and retirees to obtain preventive dental care, thereby reducing their risk of developing more serious oral and overall health problems."
