Do’s and don’ts for strategic practice planning

Strategic planning is one of the most important processes in which any business can engage. Dental practices, whether solo, small group, or larger, should do annual strategic planning to ensure that they are on the right path for success.

Practice Success DoDevelop a practice vision statement. A vision statement is a declaration of where you want your practice to be in the future. When I’m working with executive coaching clients, I usually recommend looking about five years ahead. Craft your vision statement around the “what” and “why” for everything that you will be doing in the next five years.

Practice Success DontDon’t forget to take action. Sit down with your team and create an action plan that includes the steps for achieving each goal, and make sure that they match up with your vision and mission. Action plans must include details about how each objective will be achieved, with deadlines set. Having a vision without action plans almost always means that the vision will not be achieved.
