Reflections on 2023 plus top articles of the week

Dear DrBicuspid Member,

This is my final editor’s note of 2023, and it’s been a year that I will look back on in amazement. There are so many moments over the past year that were special, including coming back on board as the editor in chief here at DrBicuspid.com as the fourth quarter of the year began. I’m blessed to have a fantastic team that helps me tell stories on this site that I think not only educate dentists and dental team members but enlighten them as well. 

Those stories include some that we published this week, including a podcast interview that lasts just over 10 minutes that I hope you will take the time to listen to. Lisa Bodell is the CEO of FutureThink, and she believes there are better ways that we can all run our businesses in 2024 and beyond. If you’re looking for a way to effectively tweak your practice in 2024, the interview is a must-listen. 

Among the ways that we can change things in 2024? Well, we can start by talking to more of our patients about preventive care. I was stunned by the numbers cited in this article showing that it isn’t currently being done on a regular basis. We can also make sure we’re doing things the right way in our practices, as the story of this simple blood pressure check that saved a dental patient’s life -- and potentially prevented an emergency in the practice -- reminded me. 

We can also make sure that we know as much about our patients and their dental needs as we can, including those patients who are battling scoliosis. And how about learning about what’s to come in 2024 and beyond, whether that means reading about advances in endodontics or perhaps learning how a laser can benefit your practice? 

Finally, I want to let you know that my team and I are working diligently on our top 10 and top five lists for 2023 based on what you read this past year on DrBicuspid.com. We’ll be unveiling those lists next week in newsletters on Wednesday and Thursday, so keep an eye out for our look back at 2023.
