Tenn. dentist gets prison sentence for insurance fraud

A dentist from Murfreesboro, TN, has been sentenced to 33 months in jail for insurance fraud.

Richard Schott, DDS, who owned and operated the practice Murfreesboro Dental Excellence, was found to have submitted false and fraudulent claims to insurers between November 2013 and January 2018, according to an article in the Murfreesboro Daily News Journal. An audit found that 100% of the claims submitted for 18 randomly selected patients (more than 360 services), totaling more than $950,000, were falsified.

Dr. Schott's office assistant also faces trial for healthcare fraud in December 2019, according to the Daily News Journal.
