A dentist in Florida was arrested on felony charges for allegedly coordinating a scheme to bilk three major insurance companies out of more than $150,000, according to multiple news reports dated January 28.
Dr. Steven London, 57, of London Dental Group in Boca Raton, FL, was charged on January 27 with theft and insurance fraud for allegedly orchestrating a scheme to defraud MetLife, Delta Dental, and Aetna Insurance by submitting fake claims to the companies. He reportedly obtained $157,000 in reimbursements for fabricated dental claims, according to the stories.
London and his office manager allegedly fabricated claims and manipulated treatment dates and dental records to obtain reimbursements. The money he received from the insurance companies was purportedly deposited into the dentist's personal bank account. The investigation revealed records showing that London was not in Florida on dates when he said he allegedly provided treatment to patients, according to the stories.
