Dentist arrested for hurling birthday burrito at husband

A dentist in Florida is accused of flinging a burrito at her husband's face after an argument over a fast-food feast she provided him for his birthday, according to an arrest affidavit from the Pinellas County Court.

Dr. Esha Persad, 34, of St. Petersburg, FL, was charged with battery and held in the county's jail until the next day, when she was released on her own recognizance. Her husband of five years told police he was not injured in the altercation.

At about midnight on August 3, the couple began squabbling while eating his birthday dinner at their home. The dentist's husband reportedly was peeved that she arranged a meal consisting of items from Taco Bell and McDonald's and expressed his disappointment, according to the affidavit.

In response, Persad allegedly winged one of the Taco Bell items, which was something in a soft-shell tortilla, at her husband, striking him on the right side of the face. When police officers arrived, they saw that the "burrito was still on the victim's face," according to the court document.

Persad reportedly told police that she chucked the Mexican-style sandwich at her husband after he threw a bag at her. Her husband purportedly denied throwing a bag at his wife, according to the affidavit.

Interestingly, Persad and her husband fully immerse themselves in Florida's coastal lifestyle, relishing "the tranquility of beach days and delight in activities such as snorkeling and kayaking, all while savoring our community's different culinary offerings," according to her biography on Monticciolo Family & Sedation Dentistry's website. The practice has 12 locations throughout Florida.
