A woman was arrested for identity fraud and financial card theft while sitting in a dental chair waiting to receive expensive dental restorations at a practice in Chamblee, GA, according to a story published on March 8 on WSBTV.com.
Martina Pickett, of LaGrange, GA, was arrested at Fresh Dental in Chamblee for reportedly buying a stranger’s name and CareCredit information, a health and wellness credit card, online to pay for dental caps. If convicted, she faces up to five years in prison plus fines, according to the story.
After she was handcuffed and taken away by police, Pickett admitted to buying the information.
"I wanted to get my teeth did and they gave me a deal," Pickett said in the story. "I paid $1,000 for it."
Cybersecurity experts say it is very easy to steal others' credit information on the dark web. Stolen credit profiles, which include full names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, current and previous addresses, and credit card numbers are advertised for sale on social media, according to the story.
