New Calif. law requires dental plan transparency

California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a new bill into law requiring dental benefit plans to disclose plan details beginning in 2021.

The bill, SB 1008, will require all healthcare services and insurers that issue, sell, renew, or offer dental care policies in the state to disclose their plan benefits. This includes the plans' dental loss ratio, covered services, reimbursement levels, and estimated enrollee cost share.

The law is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2021, and was supported by the California Dental Association (CDA). The law will help dental plans meet the transparency requirements of medical plans, the CDA noted in a press release.
