U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar, DDS (R-AZ), has introduced the Dental Insurance Fairness Act of 2015, which, if passed, would coordinate dental benefits and allow consumers to use providers who are not in their network.
The aim of HR 1677 is to ensure that U.S. families receive the full value of their coverage by creating a more equitable system for dental patients, according to a press release.
Dr. Gosar, one of three dentists in Congress, said that unfair practices that limit coordination of insurance benefits has resulted in patients not receiving their full coverage.
"My legislation will provide uniform coordination of benefits, as well as permit consumers to designate payment of dental benefits to a provider who is not participating in their network," he said in a statement.
Dr. Gosar also said his bill would remove barriers to patient access to care.
The bill, which is supported by the ADA, has been referred to the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. Dr. Gosar expects the bill to be voted on in the next few months, he wrote in an email to DrBicuspid.com.
