Looking to hire a new dental assistant? These are the interview questions you should ask

If you're like many dental practices around the U.S., you're looking to fill an open position in your dental practice. However, before you hire your next dental assistant (or dental hygienist or member of the business team at the front desk), you need to make sure you not only have the right interview questions in place but also the correct ones from a legal standpoint as well.

Alan Twigg.Alan Twigg.

With that in mind, Alan Twigg of Bent Ericksen & Associates is back with another episode of "The Dental HR podcast." This episode lasts just under 15 minutes and offers valuable tips and insights that can not only enhance your interview skills but also ensure that you are interviewing correctly.

One of the things I enjoyed most about this episode was Twigg discussing the importance of having a potential new team member wholly answer the question that was asked rather than letting them "off the hook" when it comes to his or her answer. How often do we fill an uncomfortable pause in a conversation by adding our thoughts rather than letting the other person take their time and formulate an answer? Twigg warns dentists against interjecting their own thoughts too often in an interview.

Twigg also admits that he dislikes interviewing and hiring someone new as much as anyone else, and he details how he uses that disdain for the hiring process to help ensure that he is doing it right the first time so that he doesn't have to repeat it any more than is necessary. Finding the right person the first time and doing it without cutting corners is a key to success for anyone tasked with hiring a new co-worker.

I believe you will learn a lot from this episode, and I strongly encourage you to think about it and take some notes as you listen. Simply click the Play button below to start the podcast.
