Do's and don'ts for training

Take advantage of in-office and offsite training opportunities, both live and virtual. Whether it's a lunch and learn, dental conference, tradeshow, or seminar, make the most of training opportunities when they occur. Anything you can do to develop your skills or learn new ones should be seriously considered.

Do

Provide your team with training. Most patient interactions with the practice will be with team members rather than the doctor. That's why it's so important to provide the training and work environment that will help make team members confident, supportive, and pleasant in their dealings with patients.

Don

Don't forget that when you upgrade systems, you must update training too. Most practice systems need to be replaced every three to five years. Think of team training as an essential part of the process. Develop new scripting to guide team members step by step and hold role-playing sessions until your staff can operate the new systems smoothly and efficiently.
