Podcast: Now is the time to upgrade your Windows operating system

Microsoft has announced that it will cease its extended support of Windows 7 operating system on January 14, 2020. This could potentially affect a great number of dental practices that have yet to upgrade their software.

With the upcoming deadline (and the lack of support accompanying it), now is the best time to tackle this issue if you haven't already done so. Waiting until the last moment to upgrade your operating system could add even more stress to a crazy year-end scenario, with the hectic schedule that the majority of dental practices face in December when patients try to schedule appointments so they can take advantage of their remaining dental insurance benefits.

If you haven't upgraded from Windows 7 (or 8 with its impending end-of-support extended support deadline of January 10, 2023), there is still time. However, knowing the deadline is coming soon is one of the reasons why I brought Linda Harvey on a recent podcast.

During the Dental Assistant Nation podcast episode, I spoke with Harvey about why upgrading your Windows software will help ensure your practice stays HIPAA-compliant and why dental practices are still hesitant to make the change. We also discuss why the start of a new year may be a good time for a dental practice to examine its IT practices and partners.

While Harvey's episode may be a part of the Dental Assistant Nation podcast series, the information is good for everyone in the practice to hear, regardless of job description.
