ADA names head of Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry

The ADA has named Alonso Carrasco-Labra, DDS, MSc, as director of the Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry.

Dr. Carrasco-Labra will supervise projects, programs, and services that develop and disseminate clinically relevant scientific information impacting preventive and curative dentistry, according to a press release.

He will work through the Council on Scientific Affairs to lead projects including systematic reviews of evidence, clinical practice guidelines, management of the Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry website, and educational programs for member dentists, dental providers, and educational institutions. Dr. Carrasco-Labra wrote a series of 10 papers titled "A practical approach to evidence-based dentistry," published in the Journal of the American Dental Association between 2014 and 2015.

Dr. Carrasco-Labra earned his dental degree from the University of Chile and his master's degree from McMaster University, where he is also completing his doctorate. He was the clinical practice guideline methodologist for the Pan-American Health Organization/World Health Organization, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the governments of Saudi Arabia and Chile. Dr. Carrasco-Labra has written 51 articles published in peer-reviewed journals and is a co-author of two books for practicing evidence-based medicine.
