As this newsletter goes to press, the U.S. Senate has finally acted and overwhelmingly passed legislation that extends funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) through 2017, along with changes in how Medicare pays physicians. Would many have preferred to see CHIP funding extended through 2019? Yes, but at least funding won't expire this fall (presuming the bill is signed by President Obama, which is considered likely), and plans can now be crafted to extend funding.
