White Sox pitcher helps spread antitobacco message

Chicago White Sox pitcher John Danks is once again partnering with Oral Health America and Little League baseball to promote the message that "smokeless does not mean harmless."

Oral Health America educates people about the health risks of smokeless tobacco use through its National Spit Tobacco Education Program (NSTEP). The annual NSTEP slogan contest encourages Little League baseball and softball players to talk to their parents and coaches about tobacco use, and to submit a slogan that will be featured on a trading pin distributed at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA, in August.

Danks, a former smokeless tobacco user, is lending his name and support to NSTEP and will send a congratulatory message and recognition gift to the slogan contest winner and the five runners-up, as he did in 2010.

All Little League baseball and softball players up to the age of 14 who are or were on a roster for an affiliated Little League program in the U.S. for the 2011 season are eligible to enter the contest. Oral Health America will award the winner a paid trip -- including airfare, hotel accommodations, and ground transportation -- to the Little League World Series along with a $500 cash prize.
