Researchers create cancer-fighting mouthwash

Malaysian researchers say they have created a mouthwash that prevents oral cancer, according to a story on Yahoo.com.

SA Cleanse is made from a local bonsai kesinai tree, which can only be found in northern Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and India, according to head researcher Azman Seeni Mohamed, PhD, from the Science University of Malaysia(USM).

Research showed that the tree's extract can kill mouth bacteria, prevent bad breath, and reduce and prevent swollen gums, as well as help prevent oral cancers, especially among high-risk individuals such as smokers, Mohamed said. The mouthwash contains no alcohol and comes in mint and strawberry flavors.

Research on the product started in 2009 using a USM grant. The mouthwash has been patented at local and international levels, according to the developers.
