Diatech has partnered with Colldent to sell Phocal fluoride disks in its newly relaunched Hygienist Choice division.
Phocal disks are designed to help prevent and treat interproximal caries. They deliver site-specific fluoride to prevent decay, arrest the progress of incipient caries, and enhance remineralization at natural interproximal tooth sites and tooth-restoration margins between teeth, according to Diatech. The thin, round Phocal disks can easily be inserted between the teeth to deliver a concentrated dose of fluoride to previously inaccessible areas.
The relatively high incidence of primary and secondary interproximal caries can be attributed to the inability of current home care and professional preventive agents to reach these surfaces adequately. As a result, approximately 18% of interproximal surfaces develop caries, the company noted.
Independent studies show that Phocal disks provide significantly superior fluoride uptake in the interproximal space when compared with fluoride tray gels, varnishes, and rinses, according to Diatech.
The Phocal disks are available in two forms:
- Phocal Apf (acidulated phosphate fluoride) disks contain 0.103 mg of sodium fluoride and 0.009 mg of hydrogen fluoride, induce an optimized low-pH environment that cleans and etches tooth surfaces, and facilitate deep fluoride penetration while stimulating remineralization.
- Phocal pHn (nonacidic sodium fluoride) disks are appropriate for patients with ceramic crowns or tooth-colored restorations. They contain 0.122 mg of sodium fluoride, are less acidic and will not etch into ceramic crowns or restorations, and induce fluoridation and remineralization./li>
Hygienist Choice is devoted specifically to dental hygienists and features a collection of products that have proved most popular with them, Diatech noted.
