Dr. James Orrington II and his aerosol-blocking invention AirGuard have been named finalists for the "America By Design" contest for 2021, according to a press release by AirGuard.
The contest is a televised event that seeks out the best innovations by designers around the country to evaluate products based on innovation, quality, effectiveness, impact, esthetic appeal, and more. The series finale will air in certain markets on July 17, AirGuard said.
AirGuard is a vacuum accessory that uses a transparent shield to block aerosol sprays coming from patients' mouths. The device then sucks the spray away using a dental vacuum. Orrington said he was inspired to create AirGuard by the COVID-19 pandemic's effect on dental practices around the country.
