Align Technology has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its iTero Element 5D imaging system.
The iTero Element 5D is designed to simultaneously record 3D, intraoral color, and near-infrared images (NIRI) and compare those images over time using iTero TimeLapse. By doing so, dentists can detect and monitor the progression of cavities or tooth decay above the gingiva without the use of x-rays and exposing patients to radiation.
Patients also can benefit by seeing and better understanding their condition before treatment begins, according to the company.
