Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has partnered with 42 North Dental to expand its value-based payment model to dentistry.
Through the partnership, Blue Cross will provide standard reimbursement rates for dental procedures to 42 North practices in the state. However, the insurer will also provide extra incentive payments to members who demonstrate improvements for the oral and overall health of members.
In addition, Dental Blue members with eligible chronic conditions can receive even more benefits, such as extra dental cleanings and periodontal treatments. The goal is to improve oral and overall health for Blue Cross Blue Shield members. The model has worked well at lowering costs and improving outcomes for medical plan members, the company noted.
