Stereolithography company DWS Systems announced it has formed a dedicated dental business unit to focus on 3D printing technology, and it is also featuring its 3D printers at this week's 2018 Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting.
The company plans to offer 3D printing products for both dental labs and practices, enabling them to quickly produce dental models, restorations, and prosthetics.
Additionally, the company is unveiling its XCELL 6000PD, a fully automated high-speed 3D dental printer, at the Midwinter Meeting. Its cartridge system is designed to simplify changing printing materials, and the printer can produce items such as dental models, temporary prosthetics, castable copings, aligners, surgical guides, and implant models, according to DWS.
The company is also demonstrating two automonous 3D printers, which can reduce the number of procedures necessary to produce dental prostheses. The LFAB produces dental models, surgical guides, and prosthetics in dental labs, and the DFAB produces high-precision, color-matched prosthetics in the dental office.
The company's biocompatible material, Temporis, can be used in the FAB series printers and meets European Union class IIA invasive medical device requirements. DWS plans to pursue U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearances as part of its North American expansion plans.
