Dental support organizations (DSO) ImmediaDent and Samson Dental Partners have agreed to pay $5.1 million to settle a legal case with fraud allegations, according to a November 5 report in the Indiana Lawyer.
The original complaint was filed in 2013 by a Kentucky dentist who made three allegations against the organizations:
- Fraudulent billing to Indiana's Medicaid program
- Excessive and unnecessary treatment of patients
- Undue influence on dental care decisions by nondentists in management positions
The settlement was reached in conjunction with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Kentucky and the Office of the Indiana Attorney General. Under the terms of the settlement, approximately $3.4 million will be paid to the U.S. government and more than $1.7 million will be paid to Indiana.
The settlement agreement is not an admission of wrongdoing by the DSOs.
ImmediaDent operates nine dental care practices in Indiana. Samson Dental Partners provides administrative and other support services to ImmediaDent.
