The Dental Group Practice Association (DGPA), a nonprofit industry association representing more than 30 dental support organizations (DSOs), announced that it has changed its name to the Association of Dental Support Organizations (ADSO).
"We're dental support organizations who support all kinds of dentists, not just dental group practices," explained Quinn Dufurrena, DDS, executive director of ADSO. "We focus on providing nonclinical support services, from business to technical support services, letting dentists focus on what they do best, which is serving their patients."
He added that the organization's new name succinctly communicates its main goal of supporting the business side of dentistry. The association conducted research on various name possibilities and ADSO provided a clear representation of what the organization is and stands for in the dental profession.
"The dental profession is going through a transformation -- and DSOs are at the forefront, driving innovation and transformation within the dentist's office," Dr. Dufurrena said. "Our members currently operate in 44 states and four countries, and we look forward to adding new members who share our mission."
The DSO model is similar to the physician practice management (PPM) and medical support organization (MSO) models that have a history providing nonclinical support services such as facility maintenance, technology improvement, supply procurement, scheduling, and back office support.
