Dental artificial intelligence (AI) company VideaHealth announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave 510(k) clearance to its AI-powered caries-detection algorithm.
Videa Caries Assist surpassed the FDA's efficacy requirements by significantly aiding in the analysis of x-rays from the dental office, according to VideaHealth.
In a trial, the number of missed cavities was reduced by 43% when dentists used the algorithm. Also, dentists who used the technology experienced a 15% average reduction in erroneous detections of caries lesions, according to the company.
