Survey: Most snoring treatments fail

Only one in four over-the-counter snoring treatments worked in a recent British survey. The problem is that people snore for different reasons, according to the consumer organization Which?

The organization tried remedies used by 2,000 of its members, such as nasal strips and throat sprays. Few relieved the snoring, and some disturbed the snorers' sleep.

Among the many factors in snoring are sleep position, whether the mouth is open while sleeping, nose shape, and congestion. A device that works in one instance may not work in others.

The organization advised people who snore to check with their dentist or general practitioner before buying an over-the-counter remedy.
