The market for CAD/CAM blocks in Europe surpassed $78 million in 2014, a 10% increase compared with 2013, according to a new report on dental prosthetics and CAD/CAM devices by iData Research.
The market has had significant price declines in zirconia blocks, according to the report, because of the recent economic crisis in Europe. Despite this, the market grew because of unit sales increases, which the report predicts will continue over the next few years.
"Technological developments as well as material types will drive the market forward, increasing both demand and competition," stated Dr. Kamran Zamanian, CEO of iData, in a press release. "As more dentists and laboratories switch to CAD/CAM production, the blocks will follow suit as an expanding market."
The report noted that while Ivoclar Vivadent is the leading company in the market at present, competitors are introducing new products.
