Dentists have a huge range of options when it comes to intraoral cameras. So, the Japanese have created one for the patients' use.
RF System Lab-- a Japanese company -- has introduced the Miharu Home Care Camera that plugs into a TV, and lets patients examine their own teeth. The video endoscope tip illuminates any area of the mouth so patients can clearly see plaque or tartar build-up (illuminated in pink). Just slip on a disposable cover, plug it into a TV, and view away.
Apart from personal use, it can be utilized in satellite clinics, mobile dental practices, and in secondary and tertiary treatment rooms, says Dr. George Freedman, D.D.S. in a testimonial on the Miharu Web site.
"It helps you (dentists) to educate patients on using proper brushing technique and the importance of periodic dental cleaning," he further states.
The camera comes with 25 disposable covers for sanitary use, operates on AAA batteries, and sells for $298.
