Ira D. Cheifetz, D.M.D, of Princeton Junction, NJ, assumed the presidency of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) during the association's 91st Annual Meeting in Toronto this week.
Prior to assuming the presidency, Dr. Cheifetz served one-year terms as president-elect and vice president of the AAOMS. In addition, he was elected to two terms as the association's treasurer and spent several years as a delegate in the AAOMS House of Delegates. Dr. Cheifetz earned his dental degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, which in 2008 established a scholarship in his honor.
"Remember," Dr. Cheifetz told the AAOMS House of Delegates during his President's Address, "we are not prisoners of the past, but architects of our future. We are part of a great health care community, practicing in a most rewarding specialty; one that positively changes our patients' lives every day. Let's continue to work together to ensure that oral and maxillofacial surgery remains that way."
In related news, Larry J. Moore, D.D.S., M.S., of Altadena, CA, was voted president-elect of the AAOMS following a one-year term as the association's vice president. He previously served three years as a trustee on the AAOMS Board of Trustees. He received his dental degree and a master's degree in oral biology at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Dentistry.
